To all Troop 256 members, family, & friends,
Troop 256 went to Camp Geronimo with 17 scouts and this year we had 11 young men who had been Boy Scouts only 2 to 4 months (I think we were the youngest troop in camp). Our SPL Jeremy L. and his assistants, Luke O. and Joseph F., were more than ready for challenge and for the 17 year in a row the troop earned Big G Gold. Jeremy even had a few extra hours to pass the BSA lifeguard course. The camp schedule was delayed for one week this year so that Session 6 caught the brunt of the Arizona monsoon. It rained very hard on Sun. Wed. and Fri. afternoons but we only had one camp event cancelled, Mighty Mogi.
The troop hiked the East Webber trail, did their Mon. AM KP duty, participated in two flag ceremonies, did a 3k Tenderfoot Run, and took an early dip in the pool for 3 mornings to earn their "I Did It All," “Tenderfoot Run,” and "Polar Bear" segments. For our in camp dinner on Tuesday evening, the scouts made foil pouch dinners and had homemade ice cream for desert (thanks to Sam for giving the scoutmaster an ice cream maker for Christmas). The scouts also sang/cheered the now traditional troop yell, “Plastic Bag," during dinner one evening and then proceeded to join in a very loud conversation over who had more spirit with Troops 124 & 653. Overall there were 33 of 46 badge courses completed with Cramer F., James L. and Travis F. each finishing four. And seven young scouts took the Trail Begins class and made a big jump toward earning ranks.
A few photos are posted on the website under “Picture Galleries/2010/2010_Geronimo” with more to come.
