Scout Expo 2007

Scout Expo season is upon us. Already, tickets are available for sale and the first ticket turn in has been completed. Scout Expo is a time for Scouts to show the world what we're all about, to meet & get to know other Scouts, to learn & share knowledge, and to earn money for future events.

Here is a list of the activities planned for this year:
  • Ticket Sales
    • One of two ways Expo can directly benefit Scouts' pocket books, selling tickets to Scout Expo is probably the easiest way to earn cash. (The other way a Scout can earn money through Scout Expo is by selling advertising.)
  • Booth Participation
    • Signing up for a booth gives you a chance to interact with and provide knowledge & entertainment for the other Scouts and their families. Troops that have a booth earn an extra 10% on their ticket sales.
  • Camping
    • Boy Scout Troops can camp overnight at Lorenzi Park. The Friday evening meal must be cooked on a camp stove, but Saturday meals may be cooked on charcoal grills, and there are absolutely no open fires allowed. Bring plenty of water.
  • Campfire Program
    • There is a campfire program that starts at 8:00 pm.
  • Merit Badge Midway
    • The Merit Badge Midway is an opportunity for a Scout to earn up to three merit badges in one location at one time.

The list of merit badges being offered are:

American Business, Architecture, Art, Aviation, Chemistry, Citizenship in the Community*, Citizenship in the Nation*, Citizenship in the World*, Communications*, Crime Prevention, Electricity, Emergency Preparedness*, Fingerprinting, Fire Safety, First Aid*, Fishing, Genealogy, Law, Medicine, Public Speaking, Radio, Railroading, Traffic Safety, Weather
(A * denotes an Eagle required merit badge.)

The only way to register and pay for the event, is to do it on-line, and since each session is limited to 20 Scouts, you don't want to wait to do that.

In addition to the listed prerequisites for each merit badge, there are some additional things each Scout must do to prepare, and they are:
      • Pay a $5.00 fee on-line, during registration (per Scout, not per session).
      • Read the entire merit badge handbook for each merit badge signed-up for.
      • Get a signed Blue Card from Mr. Wickham or Mr. Sanchez.
      • Bring a notebook, paper, pencils and your merit badge book with you.
      • Wear your Class A uniform.

You can get more information about the Merit Badge Midway on the Las Vegas Area Council's (LVAC) website, and a list of requirements for each merit badge at the Merit Badge Research Center.
  • Trading Cards
    • There are a total of 25 trading cards that can be collected by participating in various activities through out Scour Expo. Each Scout who sells one ticket will get a Fun Pack that includes 10 trading cards.
