Online courses

I am going to include an article each month which highlights some adult or Scout training opportunity.

This month my focus is on the training that is available online from the BSA. The http://olc.scouting.org/ website has several training courses that can be taken while in the comfort of your own home. I listed the trainings below in the order I believe is most important to take them.

Geronimo 2007

If you are planning on attending Geronimo this year, you need to let Mr. Wickham know as soon as possible. There is limited space available, and a limited amount of time to submit our registration. Also, you need to see Mr. Wickham in order to sign up for your merit badge classes. The sooner you do, the more likely you are to get what you want.

The cost for camp this year is $350.00. You need to get that money to Mrs. Baker as soon as possible. If you need assistance, grant money is available for up to half of the fee. See Mrs. Baker for details on grants.

New website

There is a new Web site in place at http://www.troop256.com/. The most obvious change is a different look & feel, but more important than that, the new site utilizes a content management system (CMS) called Drupal. The biggest benefit for using a CMS is that the updating of the site and it's content can be done by many different people, so we no longer need to wait on one person's schedule to free up in order to get the site updated with the latest news, information or pictures.

Annual dues

We are well into a new year, and as is always true at the beginning of a new year, your Scout dues are now due. If you have not yet paid them, please do so to Mrs. Baker as soon as you can. If you or your family are having financial difficulties, please see Mrs. Baker about making payment arrangements.

This year's Family Camp will be held at Cathedral Gorge. Thanks to Zach and Mr. Painter for planning this event, we have the opportunity of a fabulous time of camping and fellowshipping with Scouts and family alike. Some of the planned activities include cave exploring, geocaching and a moonlight hike. So bring your parents, your baby sister, your grand parents, your aunt & uncle or whomever.

Scout Expo season is upon us. Already, tickets are available for sale and the first ticket turn in has been completed. Scout Expo is a time for Scouts to show the world what we're all about, to meet & get to know other Scouts, to learn & share knowledge, and to earn money for future events.
